Bowy Made began at home, at the kitchen table, in the middle of maternity leave. Co-founder Chelsea Singer was making little head turbans for her second daughter – just for fun – when people began stopping her in the street, asking “where did you get that”?
Encouraged by the unexpected attention, her husband and business partner, Dallas, decided to build a simple website. They launched Bowy Made with a single product, taking photos on their phones, posting to Instagram, and as Chelsea put it “hitting publish and hoping for the best”.
From the outset, PayPal was the helping hand that Bowy Made needed to sell online and grow. Dallas said “from the very beginning, PayPal gave us the tools to grow. It built trust with customers, especially overseas”.
The turning point came when a huge spike in sales meant the couple needed capital to scale at pace – Dallas recalls, “PayPal Working Capital didn't just approve us... they understood us”
That first PayPal loan got them out of the kitchen and into a lock up space. The second loan followed soon after and allowed them to upgrade to a warehouse. A third helped them expand their range and develop new products. “Each one helped us get to the next business stage and keep growing”, Chelsea said. “It was surprising how much we could access and how easy it was”.
With half their sales now coming from internationally-based customers, Bowy Made offers as many payment options as possible – and PayPal continues to play a major role. “PayPal is a huge part of that”, says Dallas. “Customers love it because they pay in their own currency and know they can trust a business based so far from where they are”.
Now, with a growing team, a loyal global customer base and a large warehouse, they still take it day by day, and through every phase of growth, PayPal has been there.
